Lawn Mowing, String-Trimming, & Edging
In Florida, seasonal mowing is done weekly during April through October and then bi-weekly, when the weather is a little cooler and less rainy, November through March. Along with mowing, we also provide string-trimming (weed-eating) and finish up by creating sharp edges where your grass meets your driveway, walkways, landscaping beds, etc.
We follow the "one-third rule" when mowing any residential or commercial lawn, in that our professionals never cut more than one-third of the grass height. This method of cutting promotes healthy growth, keeping the roots shaded during the hot months, and the blades at a proper length to gain nutrients and deflect pest issues.
We know all the local Floridian grass types and what the proper length for each is to keep your lawn growing in a healthy and natural way. The main types of grasses in our area include Zoysia, Bermuda, and Floratam. Depending on which type of grass you have, we’ll keep your lawn around 2 inches (for Zoysia/Bermuda) or 4 inches (for Floratam/St. Augustine) in length.
Fertilization & Weed Control
Fertilizer is intended to improve plant growth, quality, and correct any nutrient deficiencies. Professional lawn care and landscaping services like ours have commercial grade fertilizers and weed control that will keep your yard green and plants thriving all year long. Proper fertilization includes:
- Fertilizing at the proper times of the year.
- Using the proper type of fertilizer, whether it be a slow nitrogen release for the lawn, or a blooming fertilizer for certain types of landscaping plants.
- Applying the proper amount of fertilizer is also key as too much will create negative results.
Weed control is another service that goes along with fertilization and can be tricky, depending on the type of weed growing in your yard. The most common types of weeds you will find in southern Florida are:
- Dollar Weed
- Florida Pusley (White Snow)
Weeds are flora just like your turf grass. All flora typically grows well in Florida, but you don't want your weeds to grow faster than your lawn. With the right amount of herbicides and spray control products, we will eliminate weeds from your turf!
Landscaping Trimming & Pruning
The final touch to your landscaping is to ensure your shrubs, bushes, hedges, trees, and plants are clean and crisp looking. Not only is this an eye-catching part of your exterior landscaping, but it is also necessary for the proper growth of your plant life.
We offer both trimming and pruning services. Trimming helps tidy up your hedges and small shrubs by getting rid of overgrown branches to help the plants get proper light and moisture. Trimming also helps your plants to retain their shape and restrict their size. Pruning is for the health of the plant, and we remove dead or diseased branches to allow for natural re-growth.
Additional Maintenance Services Performed As Needed
At Greenscape Design, we offer additional services that can be performed as needed. These include services such as core aeration, mulching, and annual flowers. We’ll recommend these services to you when needed, or you may also request them at any time.
Verticutting & Core Aeration
Did you know there is a layer of dead grass, debris, and roots that grow over time between the soil and grass on your lawn? This is called thatch, and we have the tools necessary to treat and prevent this from happening to your lawn.
Over time thatch can thicken into a mat that promotes disease and insects while preventing moisture from getting to the roots of your grass. Thatch kills your lawn. With verticutting (vertical mowing that removes thatch buildup in the lawn), we can help your yard breathe easier, absorb proper nutrition, and get the moisture it deserves.
We also provide core aeration services, which punches holes into the lawn to help nutrients, hydration, and oxygen soak into the soil. These processes are not necessary yearly but are beneficial to a greener, healthier yard.
Mulch & Rock Installation
Ground coverings, like mulch and rock, provide both an aesthetic and a health benefit to your property. You can count on your ground covering to:
- Provide insulation
- Retain moisture in the soil
- Assist in preventing weed growth
- Prevent erosion
- Provide less of a need to water, weed, and fertilize
We offer both rock and mulch at Greenscape Design, but the most popular type of mulch in the Palm Beach area is red-dyed mulch. We advise mulching yearly and laying new rock bi-yearly to freshen up and receive the full benefits from ground coverings for your landscaping.
Annual Flower Planting
Annual flower planting is a year-round phenomenon in Florida. Due to the varying degrees of weather experienced during Florida's seasons, planting annual flowers is a bit more involved.
According to your plants, Florida has two annual seasons - winter and summer. Annuals take a well-groomed landscape and bring beauty and vibrancy to it with an array of colors. Depending on the season, different types of annuals are popular among residents and businesses. Popular Florida annuals include:
- Winter annuals (planted during mid-December): Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, and Snapdragon
- Summer annuals (planted during mid-May): Impatiens, Pentas, Begonias, Zinnia, Caladium, and Purslane
